Ledisi and Steve Harvey

Ledisi’s Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue is a great, timeless album but more than US$ 50 is still very much money. Anyway, that was just a teaser to tell you to watch jazz-not-jazz for an interview with Ledisi coming soon. And Steve Harvey, who recently worked with Ledisi on the songs All Of Me and Lazy Afternoon, will answer a few questions too in the near future.

Speak In Tones

Watch this site for a review of Subaro by Speak In Tones to come in a few weeks. Subaro means “evening conversation” in the Bambara dialect of Mali (West Africa). From what I’ve heard so far this appears to be a fine, inspiring fusion album, that features amongst others Mike Ellis and Daniel Moreno, the latter is also known for his collaborations with the Spiritual Life label.
For more infos until the review will be online have a look at

coming soon: a forum

I’m currently testing a forum for this site using phpbb…and everything works quite nicely after I’ve spend most of the evening/night with it…the only thing that doesn’t want to change is the underlining of the user names…and I don’t have a clue what causes this anyway since I have set all text-decoration: underline in the css-file to text-decoration: none. Unfortunately I really don’t know much about php so all the files and templates used are a small mystery to me…though it helps that I really know how to work with HTML and CSS. Anyone who has an idea what I may have overlooked, please post a comment.

[edit: thanks to Mike Lothar, whose conundrum skin I’ve used and modified for the forum the link problem is now solved…so I’m just doing a little more testing of the forum’s features now]

another poem about Ms. Doss

Yes, I’m making all the efforts to bring this site back to life, back to reality…la la la…oops that’s the wrong song, there won’t be a new Soul II Soul or Caron Wheeler album to be reviewed here but Just Because, the latest release by Conya Doss. You certainly remember her strong debut A Poem About Ms. Doss. I wonder whatever happened to the label New Mecca?
If you’re living in Europe you can also get a almost domestic copy thanks to the folks at Dome Records.

Julie Dexter

If all works well with the US and German Mail you’ll find a review on these pages soon for Conscious, the new album by the fabulous Julie Dexter.
Her Dexterity album has really grown on me since its release and I may rank it even higher than I did with my review ages ago. If you haven’t got a copy of it, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It still sounds fresh and is full of great, inspiring music.

…got me a feeling

That’s the thing I love about the internet: you meet people who like the same music as you. By chance I chatted with someone (hey, Neil, I’m talking about you) about British soul music from the good old days…well, in our case this means the early 90s. And I mentioned the label Misty Oldland had released her Got Me A Feeling before Columbia/Sony signed her (i.e. BoogieBackRecords), he told me he know Misty and that she’ll release a new album in 2005. The album Forest Soul will hopefully be available soon and as soon as I get a copy from Misty, you can read a review here. Check her website mistyoldland.com [flash required] for more infos and please click contact and send her a p-mail (psychic-mail)…I couldn’t stop laughing when I tried this feature :-)
Since I haven’t found the original BoogieBack release of Got Me A Feeling among my endless number of vinyl records, you just have to look at the cover of the 5″ CD…luckily my CDs are sorted alphabetically, so I may found a CD faster than a 12″ or LP.
edit: here’s a nice site about Misty Oldland’s releases so far.
